Those who would like to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of the snow-covered forests can explore the side valleys of Val Roseg, Val Fex or Val Bever on 150 kilometres (90 miles) of winter hiking paths. However, Sils is also the perfect departure point for winter hikes and cross-country ski tours through the wide expanse of the frozen lakes, which trustingly huddle around the Furtschellas. From the Furtschellas, you can get higher still in no time at all – on the Corvatsch, home to the highest summit station in the Eastern Alps (3303m/10,836ft). And from here, 120 kilometres (75 miles) of challenging pistes lead back down into the valley.
