Wifi is available.Maxen is famous for its interesting history (the most famous battle in the Seven Years' War - known as the Finckenfang - took place near Maxen) as well as for the beautiful hilly landscape in the foothills of the Eastern Ore Mountains and the bizarre sandstone backdrop of Saxon Switzerland. The Eastern Ore Mountains and Saxon Switzerland are in the immediate vicinity and can be reached by car or train within a very short time. Maxen is a very interesting place, especially from a cultural point of view. Maxen was already a centre for artists in the 19th century. For example, the Danish fairytale poet Hans Christian Andersen and the painters Johann Christian Clausen-Dahl and Caspar David Friedrich were guests at Maxen Castle, which still exists today. In the meantime, an art scene has re-established itself in Maxen with several galleries and cafés. There is the Listhus - a seductive place with imaginatively arranged art objects, the Kunsthof Maxen, in which an extensive seminar programme and a centuries-old ambience inspire artistic work, the castle gallery and probably the smallest museum in Germany - the Lindenmuseum Clara Schumann in Schmorsdorf not far from Maxen. There is another gallery directly on the farm to which the holiday flat belongs: the art depot in Maxen. Here, mainly landscape paintings are shown. All the paintings in the art depot are for sale. Maxen is located south of Dresden. It is only 30 minutes by car to the city centre (about an hour by train), where you can enjoy Dresden's sights (Zwinger, Frauenkirche, Gemäldegalerie) or go shopping (Zentrumsgalerie, Altmarktgalerie). In the evening, Dresden's Neustadt invites you to take a pub crawl. From Maxen you can reach the Osterzgebirge by car on the Müglitztalstraße in about 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the train to the Mühlbach stop in the valley, which is a quarter of an hour's walk away. In the marvellous forest landscape of the Osterzgebirge, you can go on extensive hiking tours in an area that is very well developed for tourism. Tranquil places such as Geising or Bärenfels invite you to take a tour. In winter, you can go skiing and tobogganing in Altenberg. Altenberg lies at an altitude of around 700 metres and is very snow-sure.
