Evje og Hornnes is in Agder, where the Otra River flows through the municipality on its way to the coast. The Otra River is renowned for rafting, and several local activity companies offer river paddling and canoeing, as well as climbing. In summer, the Tangen swimming area at Hornnes is a popular destination, and the region offers excellent opportunities for fishing and hunting. Winter brings cross-country skiing trails at Høgås, while Bortelid in Åseral boasts one of Southern Norway’s largest alpine ski resorts and an extensive network of cross-country trails. The area offers cultural-historical attractions such as the Evjemoen Defence Museum, Mineralparken, and the Evje and Hornnes Geomuseum. Further north in Setesdal, there are several more sights to see. In Bygland, you can take trips on the paddle steamer Bjoren on Lake Byglandsfjorden. Valle features three via ferrata routes of varying difficulty. In Bykle, historic church buildings and examples of local architectural traditions have been preserved. At the head of the valley lies Hovden, offering cross-country ski trails, alpine skiing facilities, and a terrain park in winter, as well as fishing, swimming, and hiking opportunities in summer. A one-hour drive to Kristiansand, home to Dyreparken (zoo and amusement park), "Kilden" performing arts centre, Kunstsilo art and culture centre, and festivals such as Palmesus in June.
